The first event of the SCOLAR Changsha Candidate Hub, “More United,” occurred on Orange Island on November 19, 2022. In the opening session, the Project Manager of SCOLAR Network, Shikha Thapa Magar, introduced the vision and achievements of SCOLAR. The participants gained a deeper understanding of the platform through Shikha’s presentation. Following, the Founding Curator of Changsha Candidate Hub, Linzy, introduced Changsha’s team mission and vision.
The participants of the activity came from China, Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Albania. Everyone of them had prepared one or two ‘cultural contents’ to share, such as a song, a craft box, legends and myths, or a slide show introducing their culture. These different cultural carriers gave the participants the opportunity to know and understand the diverse culture of the SCO member states, from a youth perspective.
Daisy, Zijuan Li and Joy, from China, introduced myths, traditional Chinese medicine, and yoga. Among others, the mythical character of Nezha aroused great interest and was called China’s “superhero” by them. As well, the introduction to traditional Chinese Medicine “Wàng, Wén, Wèn, Qiè” contributed to deepening young people’s understanding of traditional Chinese culture.
The participant from Russia, Lera, presented a time-honored traditional handicraft art from Russia through an ancient handmade jewelry box. Irina, the other participant from Russia shared about the song “I am Russia” which represents Russian pop culture. Irina listed the representatives of Russian culture that appeared in the MV to let everyone know the Russian spirit.
Known as “God’s Back Garden”, Georgia is not only a place of beauty but also of wine. Nana, from Georgia, brought her home wine. In Georgia, she said, every household makes its own wine, so even the same variety of wine will have different flavors depending on the “recipe” and personal taste.
The participant from Albania, Yossy, and the participant from Kazakhstan, Daniil introduced their diverse cultures through the food and customs.
The activity was concluded successfully with a group photo.
