Nizhny Novgorod Hub | Russia’s First Hub Opening Ceremony

On November 15, 2022, the opening ceremony of SCOLAR Nizhny Novgorod Hub was successfully held at Nizhny Novgorod Dobrolyubov State Linguistic University.

SCOLAR Nizhny Novgorod Hub is the first hub in Russia. SCOLAR Network is a platform to bring together young leaders from Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries and the Eurasian region to strengthen connectivity, promote dialogue and contribute to regional development.

The opening ceremony of the hub was attended by Mr. Artem Fomin, Head of the Department of International Youth Cooperation and Tourism of the Department of State Youth Policy and Educational Activities of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Mr. David Melik-Huseynov, Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Ms. Olga Petrova, Minister of Education, Science and Youth Policy of the region, Ms. Anna Chernova, Third Secretary of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in Nizhny Novgorod, and Mr. Vladimir Tarasov, Deputy Chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod City Duma.

Congratulations, wishes and parting words to the Nizhny Novgorod Hub online team were voiced by Rashid Alimov, Former SCO Secretary General (2016-2018) & Professor of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sergey Kanavsky, Executive Secretary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Business Council, Shukrona Rajabova, Deputy Director of the SCO Friendship and Cooperation Center in Tajikistan, Kabuljon Sabirov, Director of the Center for Public Diplomacy of SCO in Uzbekistan, Victoria Khu, President of SCOLAR Network, as well as representatives of federal authorities, youth and public associations.

Alina Garaeva, head of the Nizhny Novgorod SCOLAR Hub, has already recruited a team of more than 20 participants.

Alina Garaeva – SCOLAR Nizhny Novgorod hub curator, said: “We plan to hold an international youth mobile film festival, Kind and Love. After that, we plan to have round tables and expert sessions on environmental issues. And, of course, we will promote the Russian language abroad”. Upcoming work plans include international youth events, the Festival of Languages and Cultures of the SCO countries, the International Youth Scientific Conference “The Great Silk Road,” and others.

President of SCOLAR Network Victoria Khu and the University President signed a cooperation agreement.

Victoria Khu added, “Within SCOLAR, each department, each hub has its background, culture, and language. And each city is unique to us. We have ten different departments in seven countries, and each hub has its individuality.”

The opening of the SCOLAR Nizhny Novgorod hub is essential for the Nizhny Novgorod region. Vladimir Tarasov – Deputy Chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod City Duma shared:”It is imperative not only for the University, Nizhny Novgorod, but also for Russia. The opening of SCOLAR Nizhny Novgorod hub today means that our young people will be able to interact with the 26 countries now that are members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. They will not only exchange information but will solve problems together. And young people, both in our country and in other countries, are the engine of progress and friendly and mutually beneficial relations.”
