Model SCO 2024 Anhui University

On May 22, 2024, Model SCO 2024 Anhui University was successfully concluded at Anhui University in Hefei, Anhui province. The conference was jointly hosted by Anhui University and SCOLAR Network, with the topic of “Generation SCO: Building Bridges through Cultural Exchange and Shared Vision”.

The Model SCO brought together not only young people from the Eurasian continent, but also young representatives from African countries. Students represented not only various departments at Anhui University, but also other universities including Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing Normal University, University of Nottingham Ningbo, China Foreign Affairs University, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, and Jiangsu Ocean University. 

Delegates gathered by the picturesque Feicui Lake to discuss how to strengthen the intercultural exchanges among the youth across the SCO region and proposed new ideas and solutions.

At the end of the event, awards were selected for the best representative, best performer, best position paper and best representative team.

The closing ceremony of the Model SCO 2024 Anhui University was attended by the Vice President of Anhui University, Professor Wang Shouguo; Foreign Affairs Office of Anhui Provincial Department of Education Director Yao Deyong; Foreign Affairs Office of Anhui Provincial People’s Government Director Peng Chuanwu; Foreign Affairs Office of Hefei Municipal People’s Government Researcher Yang Xianchun and Director Huo Zirui, Deputy Director of International and Exchange Office of Anhui University and Director of Confucius Institute Management Office Luo Xiaozhi; SCOLAR Network Co-founder and CEO Victoria Khu, Deputy Director of the International Exchange Office of Anhui University Lin Jingjing, Executive Director of SCOLAR Liu Ruina, and Curator of SCOLAR Hefei hub Wang Wentian.

At the closing, Victoria Khu read a congratulatory letter from the Executive Secretary of the SCO Business Council Sergey Kanavskiy.

Sergey Kanavskiy stressed that the SCO institutions attach great importance to the development of cooperation in the humanitarian field, especially to the intercultural exchanges. He expressed the hope that the event would become an important effort in the development and promotion of the “Shanghai Spirit” and highlight the profound connotation of mutual understanding and respect inherent in the SCO.

Vice President of Anhui University, Professor Wang Shouguo highlighted that Anhui University, as one of the first batch of universities to be listed under the national “Double First-Class University Plan” and “Project 211” rankings, strives to build a youth talent development mechanism that integrates various fields with research, and strives to cultivate talents with a sense of social responsibility and international vision. Vice President mentioned that the Model SCO is one of the activities to develop international vision and global competence: students learned to write position papers and joint statements, share and exchange ideas, present it in front of the audience, and strive for the growth together.
